The Purple Line is Bengaluru's east–west spine and the oldest metro corridor in South India, opened on 20 October 2011 and extended to Whitefield on 9 October 2023. Its 37 stations run from Whitefield (Kadugodi) in the eastern IT belt through the city centre to Challaghatta in the south-west, taking roughly 85 minutes end to end. Most of it is elevated, but it dives underground for five stations through the historic core — Cubbon Park, Vidhana Soudha, Central College, Majestic and the city railway station — which is where it meets the Green Line.

The Purple Line is a rapid transit metro line on the Namma Metro with 37 stations. It runs between Whitefield (Kadugodi) and Challaghatta. From the east the line serves the Whitefield technology corridor — Kadugodi, Hopefarm Channasandra, Pattandur Agrahara and Seetharamapalya — before Krishnarajapura and Benniganahalli bring it towards the centre. Indiranagar, Halasuru and Trinity cover the eastern inner suburbs, then MG Road, Cubbon Park and Vidhana Soudha put it under the commercial and government district. Majestic is the interchange and sits beside the Kempegowda bus station and Bengaluru City railway station. West of the centre the line runs through Magadi Road, Vijayanagar and Attiguppe to Mysuru Road, then out past Jnanabharathi and Kengeri to Challaghatta.

• The tightest service is on the central section, where short-loop trains from Garudachar Palya and Mysore Road overlay the through service; the Whitefield and Challaghatta ends see roughly every 8 to 10 minutes.
• The two ends close at different times: the last train from Whitefield (Kadugodi) is 10:45 PM, but from Challaghatta it is 11:05 PM.
• Majestic is the only interchange on this line and it is underground and busy — allow time to change to the Green Line there.
• For Bengaluru City railway station use Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna Railway Station, not Majestic, even though the two are close.
• Fares rose steeply on 9 February 2025, by more than 100% on some routes before the increase was capped at 71%, making this the costliest metro in India. The chart here is BMRCL's own, effective 14 February 2025.
• Tickets are contactless tokens for a single journey, QR tickets, or a rechargeable smart card; the National Common Mobility Card is issued free at stations in exchange for an old Varshik card, and cards top up through the Namma Metro app, Paytm and Amazon Pay.
• Children under three feet tall travel free, with no age test applied.

First trains leave both terminals at 5:00 AM Monday to Saturday and at 7:00 AM on Sundays. The last train from Whitefield (Kadugodi) is at 10:45 PM and the last from Challaghatta at 11:05 PM, so the two ends do not close at the same time. Trains come every 20 minutes for the first stretch of the morning, every 8 minutes through the middle of the day, and every 15 minutes after 10:00 PM. Short-loop services from Garudachar Palya and Mysore Road overlay the central section, bringing it to about 5 minutes.
