The Red Line was Delhi Metro's first line — it's been running since 2002. Goes 34 km from Rithala in the northwest all the way to Shaheed Sthal in Ghaziabad, crossing the Yamuna into East Delhi. About 4 lakh people ride it every day, mostly between Kashmere Gate and the Shahdara/Dilshad Garden belt.

Connects Rohini and Rithala (northwest Delhi) to the trans-Yamuna belt — Shahdara, Dilshad Garden, and into Ghaziabad. Netaji Subhash Place is a big commercial area along this line. Kashmere Gate sits right next to the ISBT. Seelampur and Shahdara are some of the densest neighbourhoods you'll find in East Delhi.

• This line gets packed between Kashmere Gate and Shahdara during rush hour — it's one of the oldest corridors and always busy.
• If you're headed to Ghaziabad, make sure your train goes all the way to Shaheed Sthal.
• Some off-peak services turn around at Dilshad Garden.
• Need to get to South Delhi? Switch at Kashmere Gate to Yellow or Violet.
